I wasn't too thrilled about SBTR when I got this cd. I didn't like the vocals in the band Overthrow too much, and it was the same vocalist in that band as in SBTR. But when I heard SBTR, they sounded different. The vocals are more hardcore than before. Reminds me a lot of Strongarm and Shai Hulud. The music does also. The guitar work isn't completely amazing but VERY technical and very well put together. The drums fit in perfectly like puzzle pieces. Not overpowering, but not nonexistent.

Carry The Dead is a collaboration of the bands Yeti, and Chalice. The vocalist from SBTR does some vocals here too. The first song, "Ashes", starts off with a clip from one of the funniest movies ever, that being Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The guitar comes in softly then as the clip ends the drums just pound harshly and Al's vocals just blare from his throat. Then in comes Jamie's very high pitched, crazy vocals. Also in these 4 songs is the other vocalist from Yeti. He has one of the best growls in the business. You definitely get the sense that these guys are just having fun when the vocalist from SBTR screams out "Sleeping By The Riverside", then the Yeti vocalist growls "Carry the Dead" and "Awaken the Yeti."

Both these bands are really good and well worth the effort to get the cd.

HM Magazine #79Reviewed by David BixlerThis split CD starts with an amazing emo-influenced hardcore track by Sleeping by the Riverside. Their remaining 4 tracks are pretty much in the hardcore vein a la Strongarm, but with more of an emo influence - all very well-played. The remaining 4 tracks are played by Carry the Dead. This stuff is different. It's pretty much hardcore with 2 voices that either trade off or sometimes gang shout -…The Phantom Tollbooth 1999Reviewed by Joe RockstrohFresh sounding bands are always welcome. Sleeping By The Riverside serves up some decent hardcore ala Strongarm or Stretch Arm Strong, with enough riff and tempo changes to keep things interesting. While "Something To Say" is an excellent song, the other four fall short. This is still a good indicator though, as the last four tracks were recorded in '97, while the first one was recorded in '98.…Dead Zine 1999Reviewed by FletchIf you do not get this cd, they will dissect you and kill you, in that order. Sleeping by the Riverside serves up some tight hardcore. If you've heard that they're just another hardcore band, you've heard wrong. Sleeping by the Riverside helps prove that there is still a great amount of creativity and unexplored territory in hardcore. One of my favorite songs, if not my favorite, starts off the…
