As I have sat and listened to this album closely for the past hour I can now review it correctly and here's what I came up with....
This album is one mishmash of indistinguishable songs all together.
But thOrN you love embodyment, yes I do and that's another reason this band grates on my nerves. Is Kris singing?? Oh no he's playing guitar... well I suppose since he's in the band the singer can sound exactly the same as him. Maybe Joshua (vocalist in SF) was singing this style before Kris, I don't know, but Kris pulls it off better with far better vocal phrasing too, we'll get to that. This album sounds as if embodyment had gone on in the direction of "Halo of Winter", off of the SolidState sampler, only not as good. Kris' voice has more range than Joshua's and Mark (drummer, embodyment) played better. I think I was expecting more as many were with the release of embodyment's Embrace the Eternal. But even when I downloaded "Lucky13" off of the SolidState site I started doubting.
What's that about vocal phrasing??? Well you know lyrics, how they are printed inside the booklet??? You might as well throw the booklet out on a few songs rather than try to follow along. The lyrics read like poetry but are sung in spurts and out of time with how they are written. This just REALLY bugged me trying to read through with the music. Also many songs have whole sections with lyrics not printed, then the vocals pick up towards the end of the song skipping one to two verses printed. I understand trying to get the listener to think a bit for themselves but this just really ticked me off. But in all the lyrics are AWESOME don't get me wrong there. They sound like new versions of psalms with praise and admonishment plentiful. I just had a hard time dealing with the phrasing part. So get over it I did.
A few fellow writers wrote about a cool layout.... Well I found the layout neat but rather bland for a metal type band. It looks more appropriate to an alternarock band. Good but just different. And along with layout comes PRINTING THE LYRICS CORRECTLY!!! (maybe they did and I'm a retard, so I haven't gotten over it, sorry)
Yes there are a few really good tracks such as "Knife Fight", and "Dead People" but overall the entire album runs together. I do like this album despite my somewhat negative review of it. Maybe ten more listens and I'll be hooked (very probable)
favorite tracks: Knife Fight, Dead People

Bandoppler 2000Reviewed by John SantEvery now and then, a CD comes out that totally blows your expectations out of the water, and redefines that band, establishes them as an authority in their particular genre. Say hello to Society's Finest from Arlington, Texas. This album first and foremost kicks your butt, and then does it again. Not since Liberate... has an album coalesced so perfectly, or rocked so heavily. Ten tracks of…
Art for the Ears 2000Reviewed by Marco PovervestPresented to you on this disc is metalcore from Texas. Sometimes the music on The Journey reminds me of Embodyment's first album (Embrace The Eternal) though there are hardly fast parts here. Mainly slow and midtempo passages. The music consists of one riff followed by another without much points of recognition throughout the songs. At first it sounds like one big mess. Maybe this band is best…
Dead Zine 2000Reviewed by GrindboyThis is a pretty good album that I'm completely unenthusiastic about. I like it and all, but I think I'm quickly losing interest in this genre. When bands first started playing abrasive, dissonant off-time chaos-stuff (not really much off-time on this album, though), I thought it was pretty cool. Now that everybody and my dog's playing it, I'm finding that it sort of all becomes a little boring.…
Dead Zine 2000Reviewed by Hey YouI have been waiting for this release for a VERY long time. I LOVE The Society's first release, Private Conflicts and Suicides. I knew that good things were to come from them. Then i saw on the Solid State web page that the band added ex-Embodyment vocalist, Kris McCaddon, and my expectations skyrocketed completely. Then i heard their mp3 from the Solid State page and i fell in love. I pretty much…Similar sounding releases
