T&N brings us yet another EP, and this one was much better than I expected. Warlord has a very thrash influenced hardcore sound. Guitar wise this is not unlike the band Betrayal. The vocals are not the usual, but more of a yell, and there are many parts where all of the band members get in on it. These are not your typical hardcore lyrics either (which is a good thing in this case). They seem to focus more on "What I am dealing with, and what I'm doing to serve the Lord".

There are four songs on this disc. "The Quest" is 3:20 (three minutes, twenty seconds), "Where The Road Forks" (9:40), "The Legend" (7:06), and "The Gathering" is 6:00, making the total run time for this cd 26:04.

"The Quest" is the only song that fits the typical hardcore mindset, lyrically, musically, and in length.

The battle inside my mind is wearing me out.
    It's wearing me so thin.
    I can't win.
    Rise up, Rise up.
Please God, help me to desire what is true.
I want to do your will.
I'm sick of feeding my flesh
    fill me with your fire

Warlord also uses lyrics from some of the old hymns in "The Gathering".

Lead us on, Lead us on to the solid rock.
Lead us on, o lord and king. Lead us on to victory.
Jesus Christ is all the world to me.
How could this friend I deny?
How could I, how could I deny?
    To him I'll be true

If you find yourself getting bored of most hardcore stuff, get this disc. I like this more and more every time I listen to it, and now I wonder why T&N hasn't signed this band.

The Phantom Tollbooth 1997Reviewed by Josh SpencerI'd say Warlord is probably the first Christian band to play this style of music.....doom hardcore! They've melded the harsh guitar tone and throat-ripping shouts of hardcore (a la Unashamed in particular) with the mostly slow, chugging riffs, oppressing atmosphere, and lengthy nature (4 songs - 26 minutes) of doom metal. The production is raw and sloppy enough to almost sound live, which won't…
