Over the past six years of their existence Crashdog has carved out a unique niche in their genre of music. Cashists, Fascists, and Other Fungus is far from your typical Christian punk album. Fueled by anger and resentment towards societal ills, Crashdog mounts a full frontal assault, both musically and lyrically. With previous guitarist Andrew Mandell taking over the vocal work, and a new member playing guitar, this album is heavier and a bit dirtier than previous projects.
Crashdog's views and ideas are controversial, to say the least. The song "G.O.P. (God's Own Party)" attacks conservative Christian Republicans, labeling them as hypocrites and anti-Jesus. "We're pro-life and squeaky clean/VOTE, VOTE, VOTE, the underclass/kindly, gently, down the drain./Christians and republicans/aren't they the same?". "My God" criticizes the stereotypical church reaction to AIDS, Women, and abortionists. The song "School?" implicates some who preach freedom and acceptance of having a "hidden agenda" of division and alienation.
Apart from the surprising ideas, the music is anything but controversial. The fast and furious vocals coupled with heavy, yet melodic rhythm guitars make for a lethal combination. One song even has a Celtic bagpipe section that is really cool. While the bass guitar is relatively non-existent, the guitar and drums are really tight, and the production is top-notch. Regardless of your political convictions, one thing that can be agreed upon - this is a quality album, surpassing the standard set by earlier Crashdog releases.
