The only way to fully describe this demo is heavy and brutal beyond what you could ever expect. Personally, I've always considered Crimson Thorn the heaviest band but after hearing this three song demo, I had to admit that Disencumbrance beats them out. The only problem with Disencumbrance is that they're not together anymore. This demo is, as far as I know, the only recording of Disencumbrance you'll ever be able to get. That means if you see it for sale anywhere and you pass up buying it then you are in need of psychological evaluation.

First of all, the entire demo is a story. The story is entertaining in itself. It's about a young man that becomes involved in satanism. That brings me to the thing I love most about the demo. The entire demo is an attack on satanism and the occult. That's awesome and it packs an awesome message to boot! They do not try to hide that their purpose is to spread the Word of God. The first song starts off with a spooky intro. People are talking about experiences with satanism and how it is really not something you want to get involved in. Then the music picks up and never slows down for the rest of the tape with the exception of the breaks in between songs. The vocals are an incredible mix of grinding death metal growls and unblack screeches. One thing I've come to notice about most death metal of this intensity is that the drums overpower the rest of the instruments. Not so in this recording. The guitars are not the typical blazing fast guitars that you can hardly even hear but rather thick, brutal guitars with riffs that will leave you in awe. To top it all off, the drums are the most brutal I have ever heard. It is hard to find a place where the double bass blast beats stop. The drums are so fast and heavy I find it hard to believe that no machines were used to record them. To sum The Betrayal up I'd have to say it is death metal/ grindcore at its absolute finest. This is as good as it gets ( or at least that I've found ).
