This four-track demo, the first from this new WM band, is far from being without interest. Of course one notes certain clumsy moments common to all new bands... But on the whole, this demo makes you want to know more. MERCY RULE has a very good guitar sound, very heavy: on that subject, one cannot help thinking of ETERNAL RYTE's guitar sound. Aaron Byrnes' vocals are well worked; it seems likely that if he persists, Aaron will become a very good vocalist. The backing vocals, on the other hand, are botched ("Success", "Don't You Know"). A pity, because the demo would have had a far more attractive quality. The guitarist does a decent job ("Success", "There's a Love", "Cities are burnin'"). "Don't You Know" would be a very good track, if the backing vocals had not been butchered the way they are... The rhythm work is more complex, and gets away from throwaway patterns. The lyrics are deep and sincere. They come from the heart. "He gave His life to pay the way. He said, "Hear my voice." I pray that you will make your choice. My heart weeps for you. When will you answer? There is a love more than true" ("There's a Love"). MERCY RULE is a band to watch. For fans of pop metal / melodic heavy.
