Former Jeff Buckley roadie, Jimmy Gnecco releases an album on Dreamworks.

Wow! What a voice! Ours singer Jimmy Gnecco has really been blessed vocally. After hearing bits and pieces of this CD in a friend's car I decided to pick this up. The first song starts off with the rumbling of toms and bass guitar. Then Gnecco's voice comes in and soothes you into a lull. The song rolls along with string parts accenting guitars until the toms from the intro reappear and come to an abrupt halt. You think the song's over then WHAM! Just when you think this guy's voice couldn't get any cooler... he full on wails like it's the end of the world and beautifully does so while staying in key.

Too bad the rest of the disc isn't this exhilarating. "Distorted Lullabies" does have its moments though. And that voice... every time he screams it's something to behold. It's also easy to say he learned some good things in the company of Jeff Buckley. Besides the opener, "Drowning" and "Sometimes" (for which the band has a video on MTV) make the album a worthy listen. Sadly the remainder of the songs just kind of breeze along only hinting occasionally at greatness. I guess musically Ours would fall in the company of bands such as Radiohead, U2 and Jeff Buckley. I only paid 10 bucks for this and those three songs I mentioned were worth it for me. Plus, who knows, maybe with a few repeated listens the rest of this will grow on me.
