For a band that is not much more than a year old, September is an impressive debut for Still Breathing. It is becoming increasingly less rare to find a female hardcore vocalist that is effective, and Dacey Buntin definitely has the ability to up the ante for other girl-screamers. Right behind her, Bob Hensley (guitars), John Hensley (drums), and Michael Rame (bass) provide a hurling crash of music that is solid enough to hold their own among their peers. "With Hateful Pride" offers up a mix of singing with Dacey's scream. This adds a sing-song element that contrasts some of the record's more in your face songs, like "Forsaken" (compared to Walls of Jericho or Arch Enemy), "From Within," or "Scars For Tomorrow." Meanwhile, "Sweet Wound Sour" and "One Kiss" offer up vocal hooks that are sure to have fans singing along at shows. All in all, expect this record to catch many a fish in the scene.

This is their debut full length ("September") and is being released on Solid State Records. Still Breathing plays a progressive hardcore style that incorporates many different influences. While there is a metal edge to things, they fail to fall slave to the metal-core monster and instead churn out a sound that is very…The Phantom Tollbooth 2002Reviewed by Duncann TrippIf you thought that metal was a boys-only outfit, prepare to be blown away by this release. Still Breathing brings to mind the sheer brutality of Living Sacrifice, Soul Embraced, or Sepultura with a force that hits you full in the teeth, not more than two seconds into the first track. To those who doubt whether a female vocalist fits into the metal scene, just one spin of this album will allay…
