The Kry is one of those groups that has managed to slide under the radar of most CCM fans. They are popular, and yet many have no idea who they are. This project is one that deserves to put them on the map and make many stand up and take notice of this group.
The Kry decided to take an approach that is somewhat rare by not using any of the popular praise and worship songs that have been done in the past or are currently popular (except "Holiness", track 9). They decided to use all original songs (except for the previously mentioned "Holiness") which can be a risky approach since some fans buy CDs to hear their favorite praise and worship songs covered. With this project, the risk pays off. The songs are unique and creative without that typical "praise and worship" sound that permeates many albums of this genre. Many of the lyrics for the songs are pulled from the Psalms or other books of the Bible such as Jeremiah.
The album opens with some interesting sonic material which segues into some light guitar for the mid-tempo "Holy Is Your Name." Things pick up for "Be Exalted/ We Exalt Thee," but the song quickly slows back down into a fairly slow tempo. The harmonica on this song adds a nice touch. "Faithful" has more of a mid-tempo feel. The group also keeps their one cover, "Holiness" true to the original version of the song without overpowering it with too many instruments.
Other stand-out tracks include "Your Glory Fills the Heavens," "Something About the Way You Love Me."
Finally someone has figured out how to create a praise and worship CD that is longer than 40 minutes long without having each track feel two minutes too long and way too repetitive.
The Kry has managed to create a creative, pleasant praise and worship project that deserves a listen.
