As you can probably tell by the name of the band - they're hardcore, with some metal. Unfortunately, for intense, hard music, it gets really boring. Remember when Tom, in his Zao review, said their singer sounded like Cobra Commander? Well the Underoath guy is the real Cobra Commander. His voice has that thin shredding "tone," as if he's trying to scratch out his vocal cords. It's not terrible for this style, but it's not that good. The guitarists are pretty good. The drummer is really good - but he has a piccolo snare - you know the ones that sound like buckets? The songs don't really ever have themes and therefore don't progress, so in the end they go absolutely nowhere. It's just a bunch of riffs loosely strung together. I could go on for another paragraph of why I didn't like it, but I'll spare you that and just say - if you're into shredding hardcore/metal, get the new Zao album, everything else is no comparison.
