you basically can't go wrong with 7 seconds. they were one of the first hardcore bands i got into, and have always been one of my very favorites. their music has meant and continues to mean an awful lot to me, and most of their records still get regular rotation on my stereos. i know a lot of people don't like their late 80s/early 90s stuff, but i do (i think "soulforce revolution" is one of the best records ever). like their last album, this is more along the lines of their earlier hardcore stuff, but a bit more melodic (kind of like if you crossed "the crew" with "the music, the message"). while i personally would have liked to see them keep building on what they were doing 15 years ago, and growing with that, i guess this is what they wanted to do for now--and they do it well. a good number of the songs are about "the scene": being thankful for people being so supportive of them over the years, the lameness and mass consumption of mass marketed "punk", and welcoming new people. friendship, anxiety, and war are also covered. the music is mainly fast and melodic, with crazy bass parts all over the place. many of the guitar parts are very reminiscent of "the crew" era. while it may not be quite as anthemic and passionate as the early records, it's still way better than most of the bands out there, and 7 seconds are easily my favorite band currently in existence. i saw them recently, and they are still totally amazing and energetic.
