What do you do to follow up two of the most successful albums in Christian music that produced: a total of 11 #1 songs on the contemporary Christian music charts; the Dove award for Group of the Year; and a Dove nomination for song of the year? You don't change a thing! That's exactly what Point of Grace does with their latest release, Life, Love And Other Mysteries.
This album continues the four-part harmony of Heather Floyd, Denise Jones, Terry Jones, and Shelley Phillips. Each of these ladies are committed to spreading the message of Jesus Christ through a unique music ministry focused on issues young people deal with today: chastity, friendships, love, and the meaning of life. This message is backed by a genuineness that is seldom seen in a popular group. Point of Grace manages to stay focused on their mission. In fact, they are actively involved in Mercy Ministries, which ministers to the needs of women who have suffered difficult times in their lives.
The album starts off fast with the title track, which dispels the misconception many people have about life-that it is all about chance and nothing is controlled by anyone. The song proclaims that Jesus is the Lord of life, love, and other mysteries, and in Him all things are known and done. "That's The Way It's Meant To Be" describes our duty as Christians to help each other out with the struggles we face in our day to day lives. Another great song on the album, written by Scott Krippayne, is "Jesus Doesn't Care." It's a nice play on words, reflecting the concept that, although He cares for you, Jesus is not concerned with how far you have fallen away from Him as long as you are willing to return to Him. He awaits with open arms of forgiveness.
The first single from the project, "Keep The Candle Burning," is a signature song from these ladies-rich harmonies, vocal sincerity and message in the music:
When you're walking in the dead of night When you're soul is churning When you're hope seems out of sight Keep the candle burning All it takes is one steady heart in a world that's turning Shine a light and pierce the dark Keep the candle burning, keep the candle burning
"Gone Are The Dark Days" repeats a common theme found in many recent songs: shining light in the darkness. It is a proclamation of victory for those who have accepted the light that Jesus offers their lives. "Sing A Song" is an attempt to remake a classic secular song. It's a fun song, but too much of a stretch for this project.
"Any Road, Any Cost" could be a theme song for any Christian who has completely surrendered their life to spreading the truth of the gospel to everyone they see. "You Are The Answer" is a song that describes the way people try to answer the questions they have in their souls. If they will only turn to Jesus, they will find the meaning of life and every question they have will be found in Him! "God Forbid" is a haunting song of how God is used by so many people only in cases of emergency or in their time of deepest need. This is one of the best message songs on the entire project. The next track, "Circle Of Friends," describes how Christians are brought together with the common bond of salvation in Jesus Christ. The friendships that form are relationships that last eternally!
These ladies have come a long way since they were a group called Say So in their college days in Arkansas. They most likely will be a favorite in Christian music for a long time because of their sincerity and concern for the spiritual and emotional growth of people. What is the driving force behind their rise to fame? Certainly their vocal prowess must be a factor in the success this quartet has already experienced. Another major contributing factor would have to be the blending of their rich, full, harmonizing voices.…Similar sounding releases
