It was only a matter of time before Braid would carry-on in another incarnation. Not long after they called it quits, the band Hey Mercedes has arrived, releasing an EP that is what one might expect from former members of Braid. With a similar sound and approach to music, there isn't a whole lot new going on, and like a lot of other bands who break up and re-form again with a couple member changes, it hard to imagine this band ever surpassing what Braid was able to accomplish. The songs are straight ahead, catchy and aggressive, perhaps leaning more toward the pop side of things than Braid ever did. Having grown tired of Braid, realizing they weren't as great as I once thought when they released their post-humus discs of non-album tracks, this EP too, though decent, grows tired after a few listens. If you are a Braid fan, by all means check into it, but if you're like me, you might not want to bother.
