it's been 13 years since the last mdc lp (though there have been a couple 7"s)--not that anyone cared, as they really haven't made a consistent record since "smoke signals". there have definitely been good songs here and there, but their output has been generally sub-par since the early 80s. with this record, they're back with 3/4 of the original members (and all four on the recent tour!), and have made a pretty good record. it's nowhere near as good (or musically amazing) as "millions of dead cops" or the two eps from the same era, but still very good. it actually reminds me a lot of the aforementioned "smoke signals". most of the songs are fast (though not as fast as the early stuff), and the lyrics aren't as goofy as on many of their records (though still a little goofy). there are tribute songs to tim yohannon and gary floyd, which is nice, and the usual political and anti-cop statements. easily their best record nearly 20 years.
