paint it black's first album is one of my favorite records of the last few years. it was in many ways a throwback to early 80s east coast (particularly washington dc) hardcore, but with some more modern touches (and better sound quality). this new album builds on that foundation, but with more mid-tempo (and even slow), west coast/black flag-esque parts. there are a few less songs, and a few more minutes, plus a lot more melody, but overall it's still fast, thrashy, and really good. the drumming is particularly amazing, with lots of crazy ride-bell stuff and fast everything. the lyrics are socio-political, but also sort of vague and full of metaphors. there's a lot of stuff apparently aimed at the current conservative administration, with all of its regulations, surveillance, and war. all good things to be upset about. there's also a big slant toward not giving up, which is also good. summing up--good music, good lyrics, good record for you to buy.

Decapolis May 2005Reviewed by Chaz MurphyI was siked for months about this album. It was one of the few albums I counted down the days until it came out. Paint It Black has been my favorite band for the past three years or so. I love their live shows and I loved their first two releases (CVA and their demo but the songs on the demo were all produced better and put on CVA, I believe).
